Susquehanna County Spelling Bee

United Way of Susquehanna County is proud to bring a county-wide Spelling Bee tailored for our youngest learners. Fourth graders will enjoy an in-school, game-show style competition that makes spelling fun and inclusive, while fifth graders will compete in a traditional spelling bee at their schools. The top three spellers from each school will advance to a county-wide final, with the county champion winning $1,000.

How it works

  • 4th Grade: In-school, game-show style rounds that encourage participation, teamwork and confidence-building.
  • 5th Grade: Traditional classroom-to-school bees; the top three spellers from each school move on to the county final.
  • County Final: All advancing students compete for the county championship and a $1,000 prize. There is a $100 school level prize for the winner and gift cards to winning 4th Grade students.

  • Builds literacy and vocabulary: Students expand word knowledge and strengthen reading comprehension.
  • Strengthens cognitive skills: Spelling bees encourage phonics, pattern recognition and problem solving.

  • Encourages persistence and study skills: Preparing for the bee teaches goal-setting, practice habits and resilience.

Platinum — $2,000

  • Business or Individual’s name on a stage of all 6 schools AND at Final Competition.
  • Full-page ad in programs distributed at all 6 schools AND at Final Competition.
  • Half-page ad in programs distributed at Final Competition.

Gold — $1,000

  • Business or Individual’s name will appear on a stage of an individual school of the sponsor’s choice AND at Final Competition.
  • Full-page ad in programs distributed at that school.

Silver — $500

  • Business or Individual’s name will appear on a stage of an individual school of the sponsor’s choice.

  • Business or Individual’s name will appear on a stage of an individual school of the sponsor’s choice.
